FG Approves ₦48 Billion to Rebuild Engineering Faculties in 12 Universities

2026-03-09

In a major push to align Nigerian graduates with industry demands, the Federal Government approved ₦48 billion for the rehabilitation and modernisation of engineering and technology faculties across 12 federal and state universities.

Beneficiary institutions include Federal Universities of Technology across the six geopolitical zones, as well as specialised institutions such as Nigerian Army University Biu, African Aviation and Aerospace University Abuja, Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, and Delta State University Abraka, among others.

Each beneficiary institution will receive ₦4 billion to either rehabilitate existing engineering and technology workshops or construct new facilities where none exist, alongside the installation of state-of-the-art equipment.

What the Money Covers
Modern laboratories, reconstructed workshops, research facilities, and new equipment. A newly inaugurated Ministerial Monitoring Committee — chaired by the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers — will track every naira, with power to recommend sanctions against non-compliant institutions.

This ₦48 billion is separate from an additional ₦20 billion already earmarked under TETFund's 2026 spending guidelines for upgrading engineering workshops in other selected institutions. That means over ₦68 billion in total engineering education investment is now in motion for 2026 alone.

Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad described the intervention as strategic to Nigeria's industrialisation agenda, stressing that funding must be matched with strict transparency and implementation accountability.
