JAMB Admission Acceptance Deadline 2026: What You Need to Know

2026-09-01

There are actually two separate deadlines JAMB has announced this year, and it's easy to mix them up, so here's a clear breakdown of each.

1. Deadline for OLDER, Outstanding Admission Offers (2021–2026)

If you have a pending admission offer from 2021 up to now that you've never formally accepted or rejected, JAMB just extended this deadline:

  • Original deadline: Monday, August 31, 2026
  • New, final deadline: Wednesday, September 30, 2026

JAMB has explicitly stated this is a final window with no further extensions. Once it passes, any outstanding offer from 2021 to date that hasn't been accepted or rejected will be automatically reverted to "Not Admitted" status permanently on JAMB's records.

Important reassurance: if you have a new 2026 admission offer but also still have an old pending offer sitting unresolved from a previous year, don't panic — you can simply reject the old one on CAPS, and doing so will not negatively affect your current 2026 admission in any way.

2. Deadline for CURRENT 2026 Admission Offers

For candidates receiving fresh admission offers during this year's regular 2026 admission cycle, JAMB introduced a standard four-week acceptance window as part of its 2026 admission policy schedule:

  • Once an institution formally offers you admission (approved through CAPS), you have 4 weeks from that offer date to accept or reject it.
  • Failure to act within that window means the offer gets deleted, based on the institution's request.
  • Some schools may withdraw offers even faster internally if you delay, so don't wait until the last few days.

This ties into JAMB's broader 2026 institutional deadlines:

  • Public universities: must conclude admissions by October 31, 2026
  • Private universities: by November 30, 2026
  • Polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education, colleges of nursing: by December 31, 2026

Institutions that miss these cutoffs risk losing access to their remaining candidates on the CAPS platform entirely.

How to Accept (or Reject) Your Admission
  1. Log in to your JAMB e-Facility portal with your registered email and password
  2. Click "Check Admission Status"
  3. Select the exam year and enter your JAMB registration number
  4. Open "Admission Status" — if you've been offered admission, you'll see Accept and Reject buttons
  5. Click Accept, then confirm on the pop-up — your status becomes "Admission Accepted"
  6. Pay the required fee and print your official JAMB Admission Letter (schools require the printed, sealed letter — a screenshot will not be accepted for clearance)

No internet access? You can accept via SMS: send ACCEPT followed by your JAMB Registration Number to 55019 or 66019.

Mobile browser issue: If CAPS shows a blank page or the buttons appear greyed out on your phone, switch your browser to "Desktop Site" mode — this is a very common glitch that hides the Accept/Reject buttons on mobile view.

Critical Warnings
  • Rejecting an offer is permanent and cannot be undone. Once rejected, you become available in the "JAMB Marketplace" for other institutions with unfilled slots to potentially offer you admission, but you lose that specific offer for good.
  • If an institution offers you a different course than what you originally applied for, you'll see a "Transfer Approval" notification instead of a straightforward Accept/Reject — that requires separate action.
  • Check CAPS regularly (at least twice a week), since admissions are released in batches, not all at once.
Bottom Line
  • Have an old pending offer from 2021–2026? Act before September 30, 2026 — this is your absolute last chance.
  • Just received a fresh 2026 offer? You have 4 weeks from the offer date — don't wait, some schools move faster than JAMB's official window.
